Two to tango?

The more the merrier?

Great minds think alike?

There are probably a lot of quotes I could use about people coming together, working together or having grand ideas together and it’s on my mind because that’s what I’ve been doing a lot of lately…

And….

I’m loving it!

I have been so fiercely independent for so long that it feels both magical and refreshing as well as a little uncomfortable to be collaborating with other powerful women entrepreneurs in my field.

But that’s where we grow right? OUTSIDE of our comfort zone.

So, I thought now would be a good time to share with you some things I’m learning about collaboration:

1. There will always be an uncomfortable negotiation moment.

It’s true. There are details to iron out. There is money and time and lists, follow through and follow up and softwares and venues to organize. All of this so that two bodies of works and two visionary thinkers (dreamers?) can come together and co-create.

AND, that conversation will almost always feel a little off when you have it. The one where you talk about money, or you talk about commitment, or you delegate the work between two businesses.

BUT, this leads me to….

2. If the relationship or partnership is worth it to you…

If you love the person you’re collaborating with, or you respect the hell out of their brains and business enough, you can work through anything.

I’d even go so far as to say that your life, relationships and future business endeavors will greatly benefit from every single one of those awkward talks you engage in.

It was Tim Ferriss who said, “A person’s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.”

That goes for networking, consultations with potential clients, hiring, firing and of course collaboration.

The last point I’ll leave you with applies to everything in life.

3. Downstream or Up?

My mother calls this “The Joy/Dread Scale”

If it feels light and easy, it’s a YES!

Hard and sticky = No go. (No shame in that!)

Trust your gut. Pay attention to the feeling as you begin the partnership.

Are things falling into place or are they an uphill battle?

As with all decisions, let your body override the mind, it won’t lead you astray.

Can’t wait to see what you’re working on and who you collaborate with in the future!
